ENGAGEMENT SESSION GUIDE

Planning your engagement photos should feel fun and effortless. Our engagement photoshoot guide shares our best tips: what to wear, how to prep, and what to expect, so you can simply show up and enjoy the time.

AT‑A‑GLANCE CHECKLIST

  • Choose your vibe: urban / nature & soft / cozy at‑home
  • Pick the light: golden hour (1–2 hrs before sunset) or soft morning light
  • Select outfits: 1–2 looks each + a simple backup; coordinate colors
  • Lock locations: meaningful spot + nearby Plan B for crowds/weather
  • Permits & parking: confirm rules; drop map pins to your photographer
  • Hands & rings: quick clean + tidy nails
  • Mini tote: water, touch‑ups, lint roller, flats
  • Must‑have shots: share specific looks you’d love captured if you have any
  • Weather plan: layers for chill, hair plan for wind, sunscreen/bug spray for parks

STYLING & WARDROBE

Coordinate a palette (2–3 colors) that complements both of you and your location. Avoid neon, large logos, or tiny high‑contrast stripes (unless that's part of your look!).

Fit > trend. Choose pieces you can walk, sit, twirl, and hug in. Steam/iron the night before. Pack a lint roller, fashion tape, and safety pins as necessary.

Comfortable footwear. Bring comfortable walking shoes or flats for transitions; switch to dress shoes at the spot.

Accessories that tell a story. A favorite jacket, heirloom watch, jewelry, etc.; keep it intentional and minimal.

GROOMING & BEAUTY TIMELINE

1–2 weeks out: Haircut/trims (give styles time to settle). Do a full try‑on: outfit + shoes + accessories.

2–3 days out: Hydrate, gentle exfoliation, confirm nails. If tanning, keep it subtle and even.

Night before: Lay out outfits; remove tags/creases; charge phones; sleep well.

Day of:

  • Makeup: slightly more than daily; set with spray/powder; bring blotting papers
  • Hair: bring brush/comb, bobby pins, small spray
  • Guys: shave/shape morning of; lip balm; light hand lotion (ask your partner for light makeup)

POSING, PROMPTS & MINDSET

You don’t need to “know how to pose.” We’ll guide you with movement and tiny adjustments that flatter.

  • Movement first: slow walk, forehead‑to‑forehead sway, laughing together
  • Natural prompts: whisper your first impression; “almost‑kiss,” then look at camera; run‑up hug
  • Hands: relaxed fingers, light touches at waist/cheek; avoid clenched fists
  • Micro‑angles: chin slightly forward & down; weight on side for a natural stance
  • Relax & be playful: connection beats perfection, every time!

LOGISTICS THAT SAVE STRESS

  • Buffer time: arrive 15–20 minutes early for parking/walking
  • Weather: layers; clear umbrellas for rain; sunscreen/bug spray for nature
  • Glasses: non‑glare lenses help; otherwise we’ll tilt to avoid reflections
  • Snacks & water: especially for longer sessions
  • Bring: small tote with touch‑ups, lint roller, tissues, flats, ring box, phone pins

PERSONAL TOUCHES & PROPS (OPTIONAL)

Anything meaningful or playful you'd like for the photoshoot. Small flower bouquets are recommended!

  • Ideas: Blanket for seated moments, champagne pop (if permitted), coffee cups, cameras, a favorite book/record, picnic basket

AFTER THE SESSION

Make it a date; grab dinner or coffee while you’re dressed up!

FAQS

What if it rains? We can embrace it with clear umbrellas, shift to covered spots, or reschedule; your call.

How many outfits? One or two looks photograph beautifully without overcomplicating; bring a simple backup.

What colors are safest? Earth tones, soft neutrals, muted jewel tones. Choose what flatters your skin tone and fits the backdrop.

Can we bring family or friends? For the most natural chemistry, it’s best to keep the set minimal. But a friend can help out during the photoshoot to fix hair, makeup, or to carry things.
